A 42-year-old woman and two other suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of her husband in Kadibuoro village, Kanyiriema Location, Rangwe Sub-County, Homa Bay County.
The woman, identified as Rose Nyakundi, is accused of conspiring with her 24-year-old son and another 36-year-old man to kill her husband, 45-year-old John Nyakundi Okoko, on Sunday night.
According to police, Okoko was attacked while sleeping in his house and allegedly hit with a blunt object.
After the killing, the suspects are said to have washed the deceased’s body in the bathroom, changed his clothes and transported the body about one kilometre from the homestead before dumping it in a thicket.
Police say Rose later reported the matter at Ndiru Police Station, claiming that her husband had left home to meet someone who was expected to provide him with rice plants to feed his livestock.
She allegedly told police that an unknown person had killed Okoko and dumped his body in a thicket before he could return home.
However, officers who accompanied her to the scene later proceeded to the couple’s house, where they reportedly discovered blood stains on the matrimonial bed and on a bedroom wall.
Rangwe Sub-County Police Commander Magdalene Chebet said further interrogation led to the woman admitting that she had participated in the killing of her husband.
“Upon interrogation, the woman admitted that she participated in the murder of her husband,” Chebet said.
The police commander said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and the motive behind the alleged murder.
The three suspects are being held at Ndiru Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
