The World Health Organization has called on countries not to introduce travel and trade restrictions against Kenya, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo following the death of a suspected Ebola patient in Kenya.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the organisation was working with the three countries as they respond to the Ebola threat and monitor possible transmission.
In a statement shared on X, Ghebreyesus appealed to countries to avoid measures that could restrict movement or trade involving the three nations.
The WHO chief said Kenya had reported an Ebola patient who was a Kenyan national residing in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The patient reportedly developed symptoms while in the DRC and received treatment there before travelling to Nairobi, passing through Kampala in Uganda.
According to Ghebreyesus, the patient died on Monday.
The WHO is continuing to support health authorities in Kenya, Uganda and the DRC as they assess the situation and work to prevent further spread of the virus.
