Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i has called for the unity of opposition parties, urging them to form a strong political coalition focused on Kenya’s future, national stability and economic development.

Matiang’i spoke during his first visit to the Coast region since taking over as Jubilee Party leader, where he reaffirmed the party’s commitment to building a united opposition ahead of the country’s next political chapter.

He said the proposed cooperation between opposition parties would give special attention to the development needs of the Coast region, which he said remains an important part of Jubilee’s unfinished agenda.

One of the key areas Matiang’i highlighted was the Blue Economy, which he said has suffered setbacks since the administration of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta left office.

The former Cabinet Secretary said Jubilee would seek to work with other political parties to ensure communities living along the Coast derive greater economic benefits from the region’s marine resources.

According to the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), the Blue Economy contributes about 2.5 per cent of Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product and supports approximately two million jobs through sectors including fishing, tourism, trade and hospitality.

Matiang’i said Jubilee and KADU Asili would work together across the Coast region to push for policies aimed at unlocking the potential of the marine economy and improving livelihoods.

His remarks come as opposition parties explore possible alliances and political cooperation, with Matiang’i positioning Jubilee as part of efforts to build a more coordinated opposition movement focused on national development and stability.

The Jubilee leader maintained that a united opposition would have greater capacity to advance the interests of Kenyans while providing an alternative political direction for the country.
