Detectives have arrested a 36-year-old woman suspected of impersonating an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and defrauding a client of Sh82,000 in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
The suspect, identified as Maureen Auma Andary, was arrested at Chuna Mall in Kitengela after detectives from Kitengela Police Station acted on intelligence linking her to alleged fraudulent activities.
According to preliminary investigations, Andary allegedly posed as a qualified advocate and claimed to be associated with Wafula & Co. Advocates in Kitengela.
Investigators believe she obtained Sh82,000 from a client after falsely claiming she would file applications in connection with a case pending before the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
The matter was reported to authorities on September 11, 2026, after suspicions emerged over the suspect’s activities, prompting investigations that eventually led to her arrest.
Detectives are now expanding their investigations to establish whether other members of the public may have fallen victim to the alleged scheme.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has urged members of the public to verify the credentials and professional affiliations of individuals offering legal and other professional services before handing over money or personal documents.
The arrest comes as investigators continue efforts to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud.
