Police in Kajiado County have arrested a 62-year-old man over suspected child trafficking and defilement after officers discovered four children in his company at a bedsitter in Korompoi Trading Centre, Isinya.

The suspect, identified as Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi Mwandeme, was arrested following an intelligence-led operation that led officers to the room where he was found with children aged 17, 16, 5, and one year and four months.

The discovery prompted detectives to launch investigations to establish the circumstances under which the children came into the suspect’s custody.

A subsequent search of a house linked to the suspect in Mashuuru Township uncovered an assortment of items, including several bags filled with children’s clothing of different sizes, ranging from newborn wear to teenage outfits for both boys and girls.

Detectives also recovered baby shawls, blankets, a baby carrier, and shoes of various sizes, alongside adult male clothing ranging from sizes 34 to 54, neatly arranged on hangers.

The search further yielded six mattresses, empty diaper carrier bags, duvets, pillows, and assorted foodstuffs, among other items.

The items recovered are expected to form part of the ongoing investigations as detectives seek to establish their relevance to the case and determine the circumstances surrounding the children’s presence with the suspect.

Mwangi remains in police custody as investigators pursue further leads to establish the full details of the incident.

Meanwhile, the four children have been placed under appropriate care and protection and are expected to undergo medical examinations as detectives gather evidence.

Authorities are continuing with investigations into the suspected offences, with further details expected as the inquiry progresses.
