A 17-year-old Form Four student is receiving treatment at Tenwek Hospital after she was allegedly attacked and seriously injured by a fellow female student in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County, in an incident reportedly linked to a love triangle.
The victim, identified as Tracy Chepng’etich, sustained deep cuts to her neck after she was allegedly attacked with a panga by her schoolmate, Mercy Chepkemoi, also aged 17.
Arorwet Location Chief Rose Bii said the incident occurred along a road near the victim’s home, where the suspect is alleged to have waylaid Chepng’etich before launching the attack.
The victim was rushed to Tenwek Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries.
Chief Bii confirmed that the two girls are students at Arorwet Comprehensive School.
Preliminary accounts suggest the attack may have been triggered by a dispute over a boy allegedly romantically involved with both students.
A close friend of the two girls, who requested anonymity, claimed the suspect became aware of the alleged relationship between the boy and Chepng’etich, sparking the confrontation.
Police have since arrested Chepkemoi in connection with the incident. She is being held at Kiptagich Police Station as investigations continue.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and determine the appropriate charges.
The incident has raised concern over violence among school-going children, with investigations ongoing to establish what led to the confrontation.
