The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Mayoni–Bungoma (B139) Road to facilitate the construction of a box culvert.

In a traffic advisory, the authority said the closure will affect the road at Km 2+100, around the Soweto Box Culvert section, from Friday, October 16, 2026, to Friday, January 15, 2027.

KeNHA said the closure is necessary to allow for the safe construction of the culvert, with motorists expected to use designated alternative routes during the construction period.

Drivers will be required to follow the traffic management plan, which provides for four diversions around Shibale, Makunda and neighbouring areas.

The authority has urged motorists to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed at the site to facilitate traffic flow and ensure road safety.

Normal traffic operations are expected to resume after the successful completion of the construction works.

Motorists using the route have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the designated diversions throughout the closure period.
