The 2026/27 season kicks off with renewed excitement as Kenyan football returns, with defending champions Gor Mahia preparing to begin their title defence against Murang’a Seal.**
Kenyan football fans can finally look forward to the return of top-flight action as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League resumes today, Saturday, October 10, 2026, following a lengthy delay caused by legal disputes and uncertainty surrounding the league’s final participating team.
The new campaign gets underway after nearly two months of uncertainty, with clubs eager to return to competitive action and supporters anticipating another season of intense battles for the league title, continental qualification and survival.
According to the published fixture schedule, Mathare United will host newly promoted APS Bomet at Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi in the opening match scheduled for 2pm.
The opening weekend comes against the backdrop of a dramatic promotion dispute between Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United. The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee has since ruled in favour of Mombasa United, awarding the coastal club a 2-0 victory in the abandoned second leg and confirming its promotion to the top flight.
The decision brings a major development to the league’s composition as clubs prepare for the demands of the 2026/27 campaign.
Attention will also turn to defending champions Gor Mahia, who are set to launch their campaign against Murang’a Seal on Sunday, October 11.
K’Ogalo head into the new season seeking to build on their successful 2025/26 campaign, when they secured a record-extending 22nd Kenyan top-flight title.
The encounter will offer Gor Mahia an early opportunity to set the tone for their title defence, although Murang’a Seal will be determined to frustrate the champions and make a strong start of their own.
Elsewhere, AFC Leopards are scheduled to face Bandari, while Tusker FC, Ulinzi Stars, Nairobi United and Kenya Police FC are among the other teams expected to feature in the opening round.
With the season finally underway, clubs will be under pressure to make up for lost time and establish themselves early in what promises to be a competitive campaign.
