The Ministry of Health has suspended all meetings, seminars and conferences scheduled to take place in hotels across the country following the confirmation of an imported case of Bundibugyo virus disease, a strain of Ebola, in Kenya on October 6, 2026.
In an internal memo dated Wednesday, October 7, the ministry directed that the suspension take effect immediately and remain in place until further notice.
The directive applies to all directorates, divisions and programmes under the State Department, with any exceptions requiring prior written approval from the Office of the Principal Secretary.
The ministry said the measures were aimed at prioritising contact tracing, response operations and emergency preparedness to contain the disease and prevent further transmission.
All directorates, divisions and programmes have also been instructed to operationalise established standard operating procedures for managing contagious infectious diseases.
Additionally, heads of the respective departments have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive and guarantee the availability of technical officers to support ongoing emergency response operations.
The suspension comes as health authorities intensify preparedness and response measures following the confirmation of the imported case.
