Former Raila Odinga aide Maurice Ogeta has offered a glimpse into the late opposition leader’s personal character, describing him as an overly considerate man who found it difficult to turn people away.
Speaking about his experience working with the veteran politician, Ogeta suggested that many Kenyans did not fully understand the kind of person Raila was in one-on-one interactions, particularly his willingness to accommodate others.
“Most Kenyans did not know who Raila was. One on one, Raila could not tell you a no; he was overconsiderate,” Ogeta said.
His remarks portray Raila beyond his public image as a seasoned politician and opposition figure, highlighting what Ogeta described as his accommodating nature in personal engagements.
Raila, who spent decades at the centre of Kenya’s political landscape, was widely known for his influence in national politics, his reform campaigns and his ability to mobilise supporters across the country.
Ogeta’s account adds to the personal stories emerging from people who worked closely with the former Prime Minister, offering an insight into how they experienced his character away from the political spotlight.
The remarks also highlight the contrast between Raila’s public political persona and the personal interactions that, according to his former aide, revealed a man who was reluctant to disappoint those who approached him.
