Public Health PS Mary Muthoni has reassured Kenyans that the country does not have an active Ebola outbreak following the management of a single imported case that resulted in the patient’s death.
In a message addressed to Kenyans, Muthoni sought to ease public concern over the deadly viral disease, clarifying that the country had handled an isolated case rather than an active outbreak.
“We do NOT have an active Ebola outbreak in Kenya. We recently managed a single imported case. The patient unfortunately passed away and was safely buried in strict adherence to health protocols,” she stated.
The reassurance comes amid heightened public health vigilance following the confirmation of the imported case, with health authorities continuing to emphasise the importance of preventive measures to limit the potential spread of the virus.
Muthoni urged Kenyans to remain calm and maintain high standards of personal hygiene, stressing the need for the public to follow official health guidance.
She outlined three key precautions: washing hands frequently with soap and clean water, avoiding contact with suspected cases, and reporting suspected symptoms through official health channels.
“Please remain calm and continue practicing high hygiene standards,” she urged.
The Principal Secretary also encouraged the public to rely on official communication from health authorities and avoid unnecessary panic as the government continues to monitor the situation.
Health experts advise the public to seek guidance from qualified medical personnel if they suspect exposure or develop symptoms consistent with the disease.
The government’s latest message aims to reassure the public while reinforcing the importance of vigilance, hygiene and timely reporting of suspected cases.
