Manchester United’s struggles continued on Saturday after they were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.

Bryan Mbeumo gave United the lead in the second half, but Dominic Solanke struck late to rescue a point for Tottenham, leaving Michael Carrick’s side frustrated after another disappointing afternoon in front of their home supporters.

The result extended United’s winless run to five consecutive matches in all competitions, piling further pressure on Carrick as the Red Devils continue to search for consistency.

Tottenham started the match brightly, taking control of possession and creating the better opportunities during a difficult first half for the hosts.

United struggled to find their rhythm, with Tottenham exploiting spaces and threatening the home defence. The visitors’ dominance was reflected in the chances created, while United managed very little attacking threat before the interval.

The frustration among the Old Trafford faithful was evident as the teams went into the break goalless, with the home side having struggled to impose themselves on the contest.

United returned for the second half looking to turn the tide, and their persistence eventually paid off in the 73rd minute when Mbeumo found the breakthrough.

The forward’s goal appeared to put the hosts on course for a much-needed victory, raising hopes that United could finally end their disappointing run of results.

However, Tottenham refused to surrender, continuing to push forward in search of an equaliser.

The closing stages produced further drama when Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was shown a red card in the 78th minute following a heated altercation involving Luke Shaw.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Tottenham continued to fight, and their determination was rewarded in stoppage time.

Solanke found the equaliser with a header from Sandro Tonali’s cross, silencing the home crowd and denying United all three points.

The draw represents another setback for United, who entered the fixture having gone four domestic matches without a victory.

With the Old Trafford faithful growing increasingly frustrated, Carrick will be under pressure to find solutions as United attempt to revive their campaign.

For Tottenham, the late equaliser offered a measure of relief, although Roberto De Zerbi’s men remain in search of their first league victory of the season.

The result leaves both clubs with plenty to address, but it is United who will feel the greater disappointment after surrendering their lead at home.
