President William Ruto has announced that sugarcane farmers will receive Sh1.2 billion in bonuses, with payments set to begin next month in a move aimed at boosting farmers’ incomes and providing financial relief to households dependent on sugarcane farming.
Speaking on the planned payout, President Ruto said the bonuses would help ease financial pressure on farmers while improving their earnings.
“Sugarcane farmers will receive Sh1.2 billion in bonuses, with payments set to begin next month,” President Ruto said, citing the initiative as a relief measure and a boost to farmers’ incomes.
The announcement is expected to bring relief to sugarcane-growing communities, particularly in western Kenya, where the sugar industry supports thousands of farmers and their families.
The bonus payments could help farmers meet household expenses, cover farm production costs and reinvest in their agricultural activities as the government seeks to strengthen the sugar sector.
Sugarcane farmers have long called for improved earnings and timely payments for their produce, with the sector remaining a key source of livelihoods in several parts of the country.
The planned Sh1.2 billion payout is therefore expected to draw significant attention from growers awaiting the commencement of payments next month.
