Malawi Airlines has issued a travel advisory to passengers flying to Kenya, reminding them of the mandatory inbound travel health insurance requirement introduced by the Kenyan government.
The requirement took effect on October 5, 2026, and applies to non-Kenyan travellers entering the country for stays of less than 12 months, unless they qualify for an exemption.
According to the advisory, the requirement applies regardless of when passengers purchased their airline tickets. Travellers are also advised that existing foreign travel insurance policies will not be accepted as a substitute for the mandatory cover.
Passengers must obtain the required insurance before departure and carry proof of coverage for verification during check-in and upon arrival in Kenya.
Eligible travellers can purchase the insurance through the official Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) website.
Malawi Airlines has urged passengers travelling to Kenya to familiarise themselves with the requirements before their journey to avoid potential travel disruptions.
Further guidance is available in the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority circular on mandatory inbound travel health insurance.
