Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has suffered a major legal setback after the High Court upheld his 12-year prison sentence, with an alternative fine of KSh 51 million.
In a further blow to Waititu, Justice Rose Ougo overturned the acquittal of the former governor and other accused persons on a money laundering charge involving KSh 588 million.
The ruling reopens the case against Waititu and his co-accused over allegations of money laundering linked to the multi-million-shilling transaction.
Waititu and the other accused persons are expected to appear before the magistrate’s court on Monday for mitigation and sentencing following the latest court decision.
The court proceedings could determine the next steps in the case as the former governor continues to face legal challenges over the allegations.
The latest ruling marks another significant development in Waititu’s legal battles, with the court process now set to proceed to the mitigation and sentencing stage.
