The High Court has ordered the government to produce the Sh375 billion Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) expansion contract and the tender award notice within 21 days as a legal challenge over the project proceeds.
The court directed the government to provide the documents for scrutiny as part of proceedings concerning the proposed airport expansion project, which has attracted public interest over its cost and procurement process.
The order requires the relevant government authorities to submit the contract and tender award notice within the stipulated period, paving the way for further examination of the circumstances surrounding the project.
The petition has been scheduled for hearing on January 16, 2027, when the court is expected to consider the issues raised in the case.
The Sh375 billion project places renewed focus on transparency and accountability in major public infrastructure investments, particularly the disclosure of procurement documents and the procedures followed in awarding government contracts.
The court’s directive marks a significant step in the proceedings, although the final determination of the petition will depend on the evidence and arguments presented before the court.
