Artists from Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet are set to feature in this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, placing the North Rift’s music and cultural talent at the centre of the national event.

The celebrations will be held on October 20 at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, with the three counties jointly participating in the programme.

The Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC), which is coordinating the entertainment line-up, conducted auditions across the region to select performers for the occasion.

The programme is expected to bring together different generations of performers, with contemporary music productions, gospel performances and cultural presentations featuring alongside ceremonial performances by school groups from the three counties.

The inclusion of young performers and established musical styles offers an opportunity to present the region’s cultural identity to a national audience, while giving local artists a platform beyond their home counties.

Preparations for the performances have involved selecting talent, coordinating production requirements and organising rehearsals ahead of the ceremony.

The event comes as Eldoret prepares to host the national celebrations, which will also highlight the heritage and contributions of communities across the three counties.

The PPMC is mandated to coordinate music and dance during national functions, as well as support the development and preservation of Kenya’s musical and cultural heritage.
