The National Police Service has launched investigations into an incident in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, in which two police officers were injured and two government vehicles damaged.

The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned the conduct of politicians accused of violating the Public Order Act during an incident reported in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, on Friday, October 16, 2026.

In a press statement issued by the NPS headquarters, the police said preliminary reports indicated that the individuals involved engaged in actions that undermined public order and the rule of law, putting public safety and security at risk.

The incident reportedly left two law enforcement officers injured, while two government vehicles were damaged.

The police service said investigations had commenced to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, warning that appropriate legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable.

“The NPS reaffirms that no person, regardless of social status, political affiliation or public office, is above the law,” the statement read.

The service further warned that individuals found violating the Public Order Act, engaging in violence, sponsoring criminal gangs, inciting supporters or disrupting lawful gatherings would face the law.

The NPS also urged political leaders, their supporters and other stakeholders to exercise restraint, maintain peace and respect the rule of law, particularly during political activities.

It reiterated its commitment to remaining impartial and apolitical while carrying out its constitutional mandate of protecting the public with professionalism and integrity.

The statement was signed by Muchiri Nyaga, the Director of Corporate Communication and National Police Service spokesperson, on October 16, 2026.

The police have not named the politicians involved or disclosed whether any arrests have been made as investigations continue.
