Police have arrested four suspects after recovering 38.6 kilograms of suspected illegally obtained game meat during a multi-agency security operation in Laikipia County.
The suspects were arrested on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Matanya Police Station in collaboration with other security agencies.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspects were apprehended in areas around Weru-ine, Matanya Centre, Waguthiru and Mitero.
The four have been placed in police custody pending processing and arraignment in court.
The arrests come amid renewed efforts by security agencies to combat poaching and the illegal possession and trade of wildlife products, which threaten wildlife conservation efforts.
In a statement, the NPS warned members of the public against possessing, trading in or consuming game meat, noting that such activities are prohibited under Kenyan law and attract severe legal penalties.
The service also urged the public to support wildlife conservation by avoiding activities linked to poaching and the illegal trade in wildlife products.
The suspects are expected to face the legal process as investigations and police procedures continue.
