President William Ruto has said affordable housing projects have generated more than 1.1 million jobs in construction and related industries, as the government continues to expand its housing programme.
According to the President, 303,910 housing units were at different stages of construction, alongside 450 modern markets and student hostel projects.
Ruto made the announcement during his Mashujaa Day address in Eldoret, where he said the programme was intended to provide decent housing while creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
He also cited the recent handover of keys to 2,157 families at the Pioneer Affordable Housing Estate in Eldoret.
The President said the housing programme formed part of a wider economic strategy intended to connect investment in construction with jobs and improved living conditions.
The government has positioned affordable housing as a key pillar of its economic transformation agenda.
