President William Ruto has announced that dairy farmers will receive KSh65 per litre of milk from October, alongside a planned monthly increase of KSh2 per litre, with payments to be made every four months.
Speaking in Eldoret, a major dairy-producing region, Ruto said milk production had increased nationally by one billion litres, while the price paid to farmers had risen from KSh35 to KSh60 per litre.
The President said the government intended to build on these gains by increasing the amount farmers earn from milk deliveries.
“From this month, dairy farmers will be paid KSh65 per litre, with an increase of KSh2 per litre every month,” he said, according to the Kiswahili address.
Ruto highlighted the role of the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (New KCC) factory in Eldoret in supporting the dairy sector.
The announcement is significant for dairy farmers who depend on milk sales for household income and farm operations.
