Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has condemned acts of political violence targeting opponents, terming the stoning of vehicles and destruction of property as foolish and unacceptable.
Speaking on the issue, Kindiki cited a recent incident involving a former Meru governor whose vehicle was reportedly damaged after being pelted with stones.
The Deputy President noted that the former governor had the right to express her political views, including supporting the ‘Wantam’ slogan, which has gained traction among those advocating for a one-term presidency for President William Ruto.
“Stoning people and smashing their vehicles is foolishness. I recently saw a former governor from Meru whose vehicle had been pelted with stones and badly damaged. That woman says ‘Wantam’, but she has her right to do so,” Kindiki said.
His remarks underscore the importance of respecting divergent political opinions and allowing leaders and citizens to express their political positions without fear of intimidation or violence.
The comments come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election, with competing political camps increasingly mobilising supporters around different slogans and campaign messages.
