Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has appointed Eng. Ronoh Kibet Charles as its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, following a competitive recruitment process.

In an announcement by the company’s Board of Directors, Kibet will assume substantive office on February 1, 2027, succeeding Eng. Peter Njeru Njenga, who is retiring.

The company said the transition period would facilitate an orderly handover and ensure continuity in implementing KenGen’s strategic priorities.

Kibet brings more than 17 years of professional experience spanning geothermal development, project delivery, commercial strategy and business growth.

He currently serves as KenGen’s General Manager for Commercial Services, overseeing Energy Markets, Investments, New Business and Partnerships, Marketing and Corporate Communication, and Sustainability.

According to the company, his career combines engineering expertise with commercial leadership, including contributions to renewable energy development, the expansion of international consultancy services and the advancement of the Olkaria Green Energy Park.

Kibet holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunication and Information Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Project Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and SAP Project System Consultant.

The incoming CEO has undertaken executive education at Harvard Business School, IESE Business School in Spain, the University of Cape Town and Strathmore Business School.

He is affiliated with the Engineers Board of Kenya, the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and the Geothermal Association of Kenya. He is also a recipient of the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW).

The Board, management and staff expressed appreciation to Njenga for his leadership and service during his tenure at the helm of the electricity generation company.

KenGen reported a profit after tax of KSh10.48 billion in the 2025 financial year under his leadership, alongside efforts to diversify its business and expand its geothermal consultancy portfolio, including assignments in Eswatini.

The company congratulated Kibet on his appointment, expressing confidence in his ability to build on the achievements made, develop staff and strengthen organisational performance.

KenGen said it expects the incoming CEO to lead its next phase of growth, innovation and sustainable value creation.
