The United Nations and its humanitarian partners are continuing to deliver food and other essential assistance to communities affected by conflict and food insecurity across northern Ethiopia.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said at least 428 metric tonnes of food commodities from the World Food Programme (WFP) are being distributed in the North Gondar and Wag Hemra zones of the Amhara region.

The assistance targets people affected by conflict, food insecurity and the effects of El Niño.

In the Tigray region, 45 trucks carrying food supplies from World Vision arrived in Shire Town on Wednesday, according to OCHA.

In Afar, humanitarian partners are providing water, sanitation and hygiene supplies alongside emergency cash assistance. Efforts are also underway to strengthen health services in areas affected by hostilities.

Despite the ongoing interventions, OCHA warned that humanitarian needs continue to outpace available assistance, with limited funding constraining relief operations.

The UN and its partners are working to mobilise additional resources, including by reprioritising existing funds, and have called for urgent additional funding to expand assistance across Afar, Amhara and Tigray.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia’s Humanitarian Coordinator, Ozonnia Ojielo, continues to engage with federal and regional authorities on the humanitarian response.
