Tanzania has discovered an estimated 223 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the Mnazi Bay Block, marking its first reported new gas discovery in more than a decade.

The discovery could add to the country’s natural gas resources and support efforts to expand its energy sector.

Mnazi Bay is located in southern Tanzania, an area that has played a significant role in the country’s domestic natural gas production.

Further details on the discovery, including the appraisal timeline, estimated commercial viability and plans for development, were not provided in the announcement.
