The World Health Organization (WHO) is intensifying community engagement efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to strengthen public trust and encourage cooperation with measures aimed at containing the Ebola outbreak.
In Niania, Ituri Province, WHO is supporting community dialogues designed to promote timely access to healthcare and improve public acceptance of other Ebola response interventions.
The initiative brings risk communication and community engagement teams closer to residents, providing an opportunity to address concerns, share accurate health information and encourage communities to participate in the outbreak response.
The dialogues also seek to strengthen public understanding of the importance of seeking medical attention promptly, as health authorities continue efforts to prevent further transmission of the virus.
Community trust remains a critical component of Ebola control, as cooperation from residents can support early reporting of suspected cases, timely treatment and adherence to recommended public health measures.
WHO’s support in Niania underscores the importance of involving local communities in public health interventions to ensure that response measures are understood, accepted and effectively implemented.
The organisation continues to emphasise the role of clear communication and community participation in strengthening the fight against Ebola in affected areas of the DRC.
