Manchester United’s difficult run of form continued on Saturday after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in their Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge.
The Red Devils struggled to turn their opportunities into goals, with Chelsea taking advantage after the break to secure all three points and pile further pressure on United manager Michael Carrick.
Morgan Rogers broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, putting Chelsea ahead after capitalising on a turnover in possession before driving forward and finishing past goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
United’s afternoon took another difficult turn in the 62nd minute when defender Lisandro Martínez received a second yellow card for an incident involving Wesley Fofana, leaving the visitors to continue with ten men.
Chelsea were subsequently awarded a penalty, which Cole Palmer converted in the 64th minute to double the hosts’ advantage.
The dismissal and second goal left Manchester United with a mountain to climb as Chelsea took control of proceedings at Stamford Bridge.
The defeat extends United’s winless run to eight matches, increasing the pressure on Carrick as questions continue to emerge over the team’s performances and direction.
For Chelsea, the victory provides a much-needed boost as they look to strengthen their position in the Premier League standings.
