The High Court in Nairobi has ordered police and other government agencies to produce Tanzanian activist Twaha Mwaipaya before the court following concerns over his disappearance and alleged detention.
In an order issued by Justice Alexander Muasya Muteti at the Milimani High Court, the first, second and third respondents were directed to produce Mwaipaya, dead or alive, on November 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
The respondents were also required to present the original detention warrant and explain why Mwaipaya should not be released.
The court further summoned the fifth and sixth respondents to explain the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention.
The directives followed an urgent application filed by Vocal Africa on behalf of Mwaipaya in case number HCCRMISCAPPL/E262/2026. The application, dated October 27, 2026, was certified as urgent.
The court directed that all respondents and interested parties be served with the application by close of business on October 30, with responses to be filed by 9:00 a.m. on November 2.
The matter was scheduled for mention on November 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. for further directions.
