The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has joined government stakeholders in the inauguration of the National Cybersecurity Agency Board, which is expected to strengthen Kenya’s response to cyber threats.
The ODPP was represented at the inaugural meeting by Acting Senior Deputy Director in the Department of International, Transnational and Organised Crimes, Fredah Mwanza, who attended on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The board, chaired by Martin Koyabe, is expected to strengthen the capacity of the National Cybersecurity Operations Centre to detect, analyse and coordinate real-time responses to cyber threats.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and attended by board members and other senior government officials.
According to the ODPP, the board will play a key role in protecting Kenya’s digital infrastructure, safeguarding national interests and upholding constitutional rights amid increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
The office also highlighted its efforts to strengthen the prosecution of cyber-related and other emerging crimes through the establishment of a specialised Department of International, Transnational and Organised Crimes.
The department is intended to enhance the ODPP’s capacity to handle complex cases, including those involving cross-border criminal networks and the misuse of emerging technologies.
