One person died after being knocked down by a speeding vehicle at Chepseon Complex along the Kericho-Nakuru Highway on Tuesday night.
According to eyewitnesses, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when he was hit by a vehicle travelling towards Kericho.
The driver reportedly failed to stop after the collision and sped away from the scene, prompting angry residents to barricade the highway in protest.
The demonstration caused a major traffic snarl-up, with vehicles stranded for several kilometres in both directions.
Residents expressed concern over repeated fatal accidents along the stretch and called on authorities to install speed bumps to control motorists’ speed and improve pedestrian safety.
Police officers from Londiani and Chepseon police stations were later called to the scene. They removed the body and transferred it to the Londiani Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
The officers also intervened to restore traffic flow along the highway after the residents’ protest.
The circumstances surrounding the accident and the whereabouts of the driver were not immediately established.
