Veteran media personality Evelyn Waithira Muithirania has defected from the Jubilee Party to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), where she intends to contest for the Murang’a County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election.

DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua announced Waithira’s move in a statement after welcoming her to his Wamunyoro residence on Wednesday morning.

Gachagua said Waithira had expressed her ambition to vie for the seat on a DCP ticket, having previously contested in the 2022 General Election, where she finished second with more than 100,000 votes.

He said the party would conduct free and fair nominations and urged her to begin mobilising support through the party’s membership registration drive ahead of the nominations scheduled for March 2027.

Waithira’s defection comes as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the next General Election.
