The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has announced new leadership at three key institutions in Kenya’s energy sector.
CPA Tom Odhiambo Imbo has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO), while Stephen Kipsang Busieney takes over as Managing Director and CEO of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC).
Engineer Edward Mwirigi Kinyua has meanwhile been appointed Director General of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
The appointments take effect immediately, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
The Ministry said the appointments followed recruitment processes conducted by the respective boards of KETRACO, GDC and EPRA in line with applicable laws and human resource guidelines.
The three institutions play different roles within the country’s energy sector.
KETRACO is responsible for developing and operating Kenya’s high-voltage electricity transmission network, while GDC is tasked with the development of geothermal resources. EPRA, on the other hand, regulates the electricity, petroleum and renewable energy sectors, among other functions.
The changes therefore place new leadership at institutions involved in electricity transmission, geothermal development and energy regulation.
The Ministry said the appointments were intended to support the government’s plans for the energy and petroleum sector.
The Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum congratulated the three appointees and expressed confidence in their leadership as the government pursues its energy-sector agenda.
All three appointments take effect immediately.
