The prosecution in the murder case against Sarah Wairimu Kamotho has presented evidence from four witnesses detailing Tob Cohen’s movements and interactions shortly before his disappearance in July 2019.
The witnesses testified before Justice Diana Kavedza at the High Court in Kibera, covering Cohen’s movements from his Lower Kabete home to Muthaiga Golf Club and later to Plums Hotel.
Former Chamber of Commerce chairman Davis Njuguna Kamau, the 13th prosecution witness, told the court that Sarah had previously spoken to him about marital problems and alleged that Cohen was abusive.
Kamau said he and Peter Karanja went to the couple’s Lower Kabete home after Karanja received a distress call from Sarah. He said they encountered four men in civilian clothes who identified themselves as police officers from Spring Valley Police Station.
According to Kamau, Cohen later came out of the house, questioned their presence and made a phone call concerning people claiming to be police officers before driving away.
The court also heard from former Muthaiga Golf Club chief security officer Denis Gekona, who identified records confirming Cohen’s presence at the club on July 19, 2019. Gekona, however, said the records did not show the exact time Cohen left.
At Plums Hotel, waiter Michael Wainaina Karuthai told the court that he served Cohen before he was joined by Margaret Wanjiru and two other women. He said Cohen left at about 1:30 a.m., marking the last time he saw him.
Former bartender Aggrey Ingano Muhalamu also recalled serving Cohen. He testified that Cohen settled his bill after a disagreement involving Wanjiru and said Cohen left the hotel between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m., appearing jovial.
The evidence forms part of the prosecution’s case as it seeks to establish Cohen’s movements and interactions before his disappearance.
The hearing is set to continue tomorrow, with the prosecution expected to call additional witnesses.
