Security agencies in Busia County have issued a stern warning to illegal groups operating in the area, saying they will not be allowed to continue engaging in criminal activities.
The warning particularly targets groups operating in Marachi, on the outskirts of Busia town, where security officials say they are stepping up operations to restore peace and security.
The latest directive comes just months after security agencies conducted a major operation in the area targeting the Jobless gang.
Tensions resurfaced recently after gunshots were heard in Marachi following a confrontation between police officers and suspected members of the group.
Speaking during a peace meeting held in the area after the incident, Busia County Police Commander Johnstone Lang’at said security operations would continue until the group was brought under control.
Lang’at said security agencies would maintain their presence in the area, particularly as the country prepares for next year’s elections.
Busia County Commissioner Stephen Orinde backed the security operation and called on residents to cooperate with authorities by providing information that could help identify suspected criminals operating in Marachi.
Orinde urged residents to work closely with security agencies as part of efforts to prevent criminal activities and maintain peace in the area.
Residents who attended the peace meeting also expressed concern over the activities of illegal groups.
Security authorities have consequently reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order in Marachi, while urging residents to support efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace in the area.
