The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two Nyamira County Assembly officials over alleged irregularities in the award of a KSh367 million tender for the construction of an office block.

The commission said the alleged irregularities resulted in a loss of KSh30.18 million in public funds.

The suspects are David Nyarango Ombego, Deputy Clerk/Director of Legislative, Legal Procedure and Committee Services, and Joyce Onyiego, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation.

The two were arrested in Kisii County during an operation conducted by EACC investigators.

According to the commission, the officials are expected to face charges including abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with laws governing the management of public funds and negligence of official duty.

The suspects are being processed at the EACC South Nyanza Regional Office in Kisii ahead of their arraignment.

The arrests are part of investigations into the procurement and implementation of the KSh367 million office block project at the Nyamira County Assembly.
