The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has approved the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) name, following an order by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
In a letter dated October 1, 2026, Registrar of Political Parties J.C. Lorionokou informed the applicants’ lawyers that their application had been approved under Section 4B of the Political Parties Act.
The Registrar cited the Tribunal’s judgment in PPDTA/E001/2026, Michael Caroli Omondi and another versus Registrar of Political Parties, as well as Section 8 of the Political Parties Act.
The name will be reserved for 90 days from October 1, during which the applicants are expected to undertake the next steps towards registration of the political party.
The approval follows a September 30 ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, which set aside the Registrar’s earlier decision rejecting the reservation of the name and directed the office to reconsider the application within seven days.
The movement is associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, Pauline Njoroge and former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo, who were identified in the tribunal proceedings as applicants.
The name reservation does not amount to full registration of the political party. The proposed party will still have to meet the statutory requirements for registration.
The development comes amid competing claims over the Linda Mwananchi name. Charles Wanyonyi has separately told the Registrar that his application, filed in February 2026, predates the application associated with Sifuna and his allies.
