The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Law Courts have granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations five days to hold 14 suspects as detectives investigate alleged money laundering and obtaining money by false pretences.
The suspects were arrested on September 1, 2026, during a DCI operation conducted by officers attached to JKIA.
The DCI told the court that the investigation followed a complaint by a US national identified as Alkhalifi Ibrahim Hassan.
Detectives also raided Zizo Warehouse behind Vision Plaza in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, where they recovered exhibits listed in an inventory presented to the court.
The suspects are being investigated under Section 3 of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act and Section 313 of the Penal Code.
The DCI further asked the court to allow its ICT and Digital Forensics Laboratory to examine mobile phones recovered from the suspects.
Investigators said the devices could contain financial records, communications and other electronic evidence relevant to the case.
They argued that the complexity of the investigation required more time than the constitutionally prescribed 24 hours within which arrested persons should be presented before court.
The court granted the application and ordered that the suspects be held at JKIA Police Station for five working days.
The matter will be mentioned next Friday for further directions and an update on the investigations.
