KCB Rugby will host fellow KCB-sponsored side KCB KOBS from Uganda in a cross-border rugby showdown at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka on Saturday.
The fixture, dubbed the ‘Sibling Rivalry’, will see the Kenyan and Ugandan clubs go head-to-head as part of KCB’s efforts to use sport to strengthen regional ties.
KCB Rugby Club Chairman James Mugo says the match will provide players from both sides with an opportunity to compete, exchange ideas and prepare for the new season.
KCB KOBS, founded in Kampala in 1963, are one of Uganda’s most established rugby clubs, with 13 Uganda Premiership titles, nine Uganda Cups and multiple National 7s titles to their name.
The visitors arrived in Nairobi on Thursday and conducted a captain’s run on Friday before visiting the KCB TRM Branch and taking part in a CSR activity at the National Youth Service along Thika Road.
Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad and the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine will meet in the university rugby curtain raiser before the main fixture at 4pm.
KCB KOBS centre Ian Munyani says the encounter will allow the Ugandan side to gauge its progress while building momentum for the season.
The ‘Sibling Rivalry’ match comes as Kenya’s 15s rugby season gets underway, with the Impala Floodlit Rugby Tournament set for October 17, 24 and 31 at Impala Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi.
