Seventeen people have died following a grisly road accident involving multiple vehicles at Salama on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Makueni County.
An 18-seater matatu and a lorry were among the vehicles involved in the crash, which left seven other people injured.
The injured were taken to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital, where they are receiving medical attention.
Emergency responders are at the scene as recovery operations continue, with the accident causing disruption on the busy highway.
Motorists using the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near Salama have been advised to slow down and exercise caution while the response operation continues.
Authorities are yet to issue further details on the cause of the accident.
