Nairobi City Thunder have cemented their dominance of Kenyan basketball after completing a 3-0 sweep of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to retain the National Men’s Basketball Premier League title.
Thunder sealed their third consecutive championship on Friday at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi, holding off a determined KPA side 74-70 in Game Three to complete a clean sweep of the best-of-five final series.
The victory extends Thunder’s remarkable unbeaten run across three seasons, with the champions once again proving their ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most.
KPA came out firing in Game Three, taking control of the opening quarter 27-18 as Thunder struggled to settle into the contest.
The champions gradually found their rhythm in the second quarter, edging KPA 11-8 to trim the deficit to six points at the break, with the Dockers holding a 35-29 advantage.
Thunder returned from halftime with renewed energy and produced their best spell of the game in the third quarter.
They outscored KPA 24-13 to overturn the deficit and take a 53-48 lead heading into the final period.
KPA refused to surrender, responding with a 22-21 advantage in the fourth quarter, but Thunder kept their composure in the closing stages to secure the four-point victory and claim the championship.
The result completed a dominant finals campaign for Thunder, who had already taken control of the series with two victories in Mombasa.
They won Game One 78-67 before edging KPA 72-63 in Game Two, leaving the Dockers with no room for recovery in the series.
For Thunder, the latest triumph represents another landmark chapter in the club’s growing basketball dynasty.
That extraordinary run has established Nairobi City Thunder as the dominant force in Kenya’s men’s basketball, with the champions now turning their attention to extending their remarkable reign when the new season arrives.
