Wiper Patriotic Front says it is working to bring former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama back into the party as it seeks to consolidate support in Lower Eastern ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Party chairman Jamleck Kamau said the October 1 meeting between Muthama and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was organised by party officials and was part of efforts to strengthen the party’s support base in the region.
The meeting was held at Kamau’s Lavington residence and brought together Kalonzo, Muthama, Kema Kilonzo, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, Dambuki and Kamau.
Kamau dismissed speculation that Muthama had been sent by the government to negotiate with Kalonzo, saying Wiper had been engaging the former senator for several months.
He said the party was seeking to persuade Muthama to return to Wiper, while also holding discussions with other figures associated with the government.
Kamau declined to identify the officials he claimed were in talks with Wiper but said he expected political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Muthama, who is a commissioner at the Parliamentary Service Commission and a founding chairman of UDA, separately described his October 1 engagement with Kalonzo as a consultation between longtime political associates on national issues.
The meeting had triggered speculation over Muthama’s political direction, with Wiper now publicly confirming that it is seeking to bring him back into its ranks. Kamau, however, acknowledged that Muthama remains in government at present.
Kamau also rejected suggestions that he could broker an arrangement between Kalonzo and the government, saying he had previously turned down approaches to join the UDA administration.
He further accused the government of poor governance, corruption and human rights abuses, while maintaining that Wiper’s focus remains on strengthening its political organisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
Wiper has not announced that Muthama has formally left his current political alignment, and no new political agreement between him and Kalonzo has been publicly confirmed.
