Presidential candidate David Maraga has pledged to expand access to business financing and improve support systems for young entrepreneurs if elected President in the 2027 General Election.
The United Green Movement Party leader made the pledge while engaging Kenyans in Houston, Texas, where he highlighted the contribution of the diaspora to Kenya’s economy through remittances.
Maraga said Kenyans abroad send home about 2.7 billion dollars annually, describing the diaspora as an important contributor to the country’s economic development.
He cited the story of Nellie and Dennis Chege, who he said had expanded their business, Cypress Assisted Living, from a small three-person residential facility to four facilities serving 80 residents and employing 60 people.
Maraga said the growth demonstrated the entrepreneurial potential of Kenyan youth, which he pledged to support through improved access to financing and more efficient government systems.
The former Chief Justice also pointed to his record in the Judiciary as evidence of his ability to reform public institutions.
“As your Chief Justice, I put in place a judicial system that worked. As your President, I will deliver the same,” Maraga said.
He said his administration would focus on creating an enabling environment for young people to establish and grow businesses while strengthening systems that support entrepreneurship.
