France produced a stunning late comeback to beat Belgium 4-1 in their UEFA Nations League Group A1 clash at the Stade de France on Monday night.
The result saw Zinedine Zidane’s France maintain their position at the top of Group A1, while Belgium suffered a heavy defeat despite having taken the lead in the contest.
Belgium struck first through Dodi Lukebakio, who put the visitors ahead in the 35th minute. The Red Devils held onto their advantage for much of the encounter and appeared on course for an important away victory.
However, France dramatically turned the game around in the closing stages.
The hosts produced a remarkable four-goal burst in the final 13 minutes, with Michael Olise scoring twice as France transformed a 0-1 deficit into a commanding 4-1 victory.
Olise’s intervention proved particularly decisive as France found another level late in the match, leaving Belgium unable to protect their lead.
The victory is a significant boost for France, who had entered the match top of Group A1 with seven points from their opening three games. Belgium had six points and were second before the encounter.
France had also beaten Belgium 1-0 in Brussels earlier in the Nations League campaign, making Monday’s victory a second successive triumph over the Red Devils.
The result also reshapes the Group A1 race, with Italy’s 3-1 victory over Türkiye on the same night moving the Azzurri strongly into contention alongside France and Belgium.
France now have another major result in their pursuit of a place in the Nations League quarter-finals, while Belgium will have to regroup quickly as the battle for the top two positions intensifies.
