At least 32 people have been killed after a Nigerian military aircraft crashed into a swamp in Ondo State, in a deadly aviation accident that has triggered national mourning.
The aircraft, which was carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members, was travelling from Benin City to Lagos when it disappeared from radar before crashing near a naval base in Igbokoda.
Rescue teams later located the aircraft submerged in water and recovered parts of the wreckage from the crash site.
The identities of those who died have not yet been released as authorities work to notify their families.
President Bola Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning and ordered flags to be flown at half-mast across Nigeria in honour of the victims.
The President has also directed the Nigerian Air Force to conduct a thorough investigation into the crash and establish the circumstances that led to the aircraft going down.
Authorities are expected to provide further details as recovery operations and investigations continue.
