Samburu youth are demanding compensation for families whose livestock were allegedly killed by police officers during an operation in the county last month.
The youth claim that more than 700 cattle were killed during the operation, putting the estimated value of the livestock at about KSh700 million.
They are now calling on the government to compensate the affected families, saying the loss has left many households facing significant economic hardship.
The group is also demanding a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the operation and the reported deaths of the livestock.
The youth have further raised allegations involving Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, calling for his role, if any, in the operation to be investigated.
They want the government to establish what led to the operation, determine those responsible for the loss of livestock and ensure affected families receive compensation.
The claims come amid growing concerns among residents over the impact of security operations on pastoralist communities whose livelihoods largely depend on livestock.
The youth have urged the relevant government agencies to address the matter and provide answers to families seeking accountability for the reported losses.
