Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has held talks with senior officials in the Directorate of Immigration Services to assess ongoing reforms and explore ways of speeding up their implementation.
Murkomen met heads of departments alongside Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang as the Ministry seeks to improve the efficiency of services offered to citizens and visitors.
The CS said the Ministry would continue reviewing its systems and operations to improve service delivery, particularly by making key services more accessible across the country.
He said the decentralisation of passport issuance was progressing, with new regional offices being established to bring passport services closer to citizens.
Murkomen said the passport offices in Malindi and Nyeri were nearing completion. The country currently has regional passport offices in Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Kericho, Embu, Bungoma, Kisii, Nakuru and Garissa.
The Ministry is also supporting the Kazi Majuu programme, with the National Employment Authority establishing dedicated desks at Immigration offices in Nairobi to assist Kenyans seeking employment opportunities abroad.
At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the government is installing electronic gates as part of efforts to speed up the processing of travellers.
The reforms are part of wider measures by the Ministry of Interior to modernise immigration services and improve the experience of citizens and visitors accessing government services.
Murkomen and Kipsang were joined by other senior government officials during the meeting.
