The Kenya Red Cross Society has confirmed that its emergency response to Ebola is fully underway following the confirmation of an Ebola case in Kenya.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the Kenya Red Cross said it was closely monitoring the regional Ebola situation and had been strengthening preparedness measures in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
The organisation extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the patient who succumbed to the Ebola Virus Disease, following confirmation by the Ministry of Health.
“With this confirmation, our response is now fully under way, under the leadership of the Ministry of Health,” the Kenya Red Cross said.
The organisation said its teams are already on the ground supporting the national response through safe and dignified burial services, community engagement and community-based surveillance.
Volunteers are also working with health officials at points of entry to support screening and infection prevention measures.
The Kenya Red Cross has urged Kenyans to remain vigilant but avoid panic, while relying on official information from the Ministry of Health and other designated authorities.
It advised anyone experiencing symptoms including sudden fever, weakness, vomiting or unexplained bleeding—particularly those who have recently travelled to Ebola-affected areas or had contact with a sick person—to seek medical attention immediately.
Suspected cases can be reported through the Ministry of Health toll-free line 719 or the Kenya Red Cross toll-free line 1199.
The humanitarian organisation also called on the public to avoid stigmatising affected families and communities, stressing the need for compassion as health authorities intensify efforts to contain the disease.
The Kenya Red Cross Secretary General, Dr Ahmed Idris, said the organisation remains committed to supporting the Government throughout the response.
