A multi-agency security team has disrupted an illicit brewing operation in Igembe Central, Meru County, following a crackdown targeting suspected manufacturers of illegal alcohol.
The operation, conducted in Irindie Village following a tip-off, resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of approximately 600 litres of an illicit brew locally known as “Muna”.
Security officers also seized 10 litres of chang’aa during the operation.
The team targeted three homesteads suspected of being involved in the production of illicit brews, with the successful raid highlighting the role of intelligence-led and coordinated security operations in tackling illegal alcohol production.
The National Police Service said multi-agency operations targeting illicit brewing and related activities will continue across the country.
The ongoing crackdown is aimed at disrupting the production, distribution and consumption of illegal alcoholic drinks, which authorities have linked to various social and public health concerns.
Authorities have urged members of the public to continue providing information on suspected illicit brewing activities to enable security agencies to take timely action.
