Health authorities in Wajir County have isolated a patient suspected of having a viral haemorrhagic fever after the individual travelled to Kenya from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The patient has been placed under isolation as health officials intensify surveillance and response measures following the suspected case.
Samples have been collected from the patient and submitted for laboratory testing to establish whether the individual is infected with a viral haemorrhagic fever.
Health authorities have also commenced contact tracing to identify and monitor people who may have come into contact with the patient.
The development comes amid heightened vigilance in Kenya over viral haemorrhagic fever following increased surveillance at points of entry and health facilities.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and follow guidance issued by health officials, noting that laboratory testing is required to confirm whether the suspected case is positive.
Further updates are expected once laboratory results are available.
