Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni has questioned the party’s continued role in the Azimio/Ukombozi political arrangement, calling for a rethink of its position ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Thursday, October 8, Kioni said he was struggling to understand Jubilee’s place within the coalition as political parties reorganise ahead of the polls.
“At this point, I believe we should be thinking beyond the old formations and working towards a new, genuinely inclusive coalition that brings everyone on board and gives every voice a place at the table,” he added.
He argued that Jubilee should look beyond existing political formations and work towards a new coalition that brings together different parties and gives them a meaningful role in decision-making.
“At this point, I believe we should be thinking beyond the old formations and working towards a new, genuinely inclusive coalition that brings everyone on board and gives every voice a place at the table,” he added.
Kioni’s remarks come amid significant changes within Jubilee and the wider opposition landscape.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta recently handed over Jubilee’s leadership to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i before subsequently resigning as chairperson of the opposition coalition.
The Ukombozi Alliance, formerly known as the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, is also undergoing restructuring as opposition parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kioni’s latest comments could reignite debate within Jubilee over whether the party should remain firmly anchored in the existing opposition arrangement or pursue a broader political coalition with other parties.
The Jubilee official has previously expressed interest in leading the party, but Matiang’i was handed the leadership following the transition from Kenyatta. Kioni has said his desire to become party leader remains alive.
